DUTY OF CARE POLICY
- School starts at 1:30 p.m. and finishes at 5:30 p.m*. Wentworthville Tamil Study Centre (WTSC) will endeavor to provide adequate care and supervision to students from 5 minutes prior to school start and 5 minutes after school finish (hereafter school hours is referred to 1:25 p.m. to 5:35 p.m)*.
- It is the parents’ or guardians’ responsibility to bring their children safely to the school gate and collect their children on time from the school gate before and after school hours respectively. WTSC will not take any responsibility for any incidents or accidents that take place outside the school premises before or after the school hours.
- It is the parents’ responsibility to provide emergency contact numbers to the school administration. Parents or Guardian will be notified of accidents or incidents that took place within the school premises during school hours.
- In classroom student numbers will endeavor to maximum of 25 per teacher to ensure adequate supervision. WTSC committee will follow dependent on the school classroom availabilities to split the class.
- All students are required to read and understand the code of behaviour.
- The WTSC Committee will engage minimum of two parent helpers to supervise students on a rotation basis during the following hours:
- from 1:15 p.m. to 1:30 p.m*
- during drink breaks and*
- from 5:30 p.m. to 5:45 p.m*
- Students are not allowed to bring knives, blades, cricket balls, marbles, chewing gum and/or any other item that can cause injury to them and/or others.
- Students will not be allowed to go outside the school premises during school hours. In case students need to leave the school early, they should obtain permission from the Principal/Vice- Principal.
- A First Aid Kit will be always available in the Tamil School Administration office. An Accident/Incident Notification Form is available to be completed, signed and filed. Parent(s) or guardian will be notified as soon as practicable. All accidents or incidents will be reported orally and/or in writing to all concerned.
- The school will obtain written permission from the parents prior to going on any Excursions, unless the parent(s) or guardian accompany.
- The committee will make sure that all equipment and classrooms are kept functional and safe to the staff and students. Students will not be allowed to touch belongings of the mainstream school.
- Students may be required to come for participation in or practice for functions such as Kalaivizha outside the school hours at venues other than normal school premises. It is the parent’s or guardian’s responsibility to ensure the safety and welfare of the children during these occasions.
- The Duty of Care Policy Statement will be made available if requested by parents, guardians, visitors or students during school hours.
